Even though this is one of the most common foot or leg injuries around, it still needs to be taken seriously. A sprained ankle occurs when ankle ligaments have been overstretched, which is why this type of injury is most common after awkward movement of feet (e.g tripping on a hole when running). Ankle injuries can range from a basic sprained ankle that just needs some rest, to more extreme cases where ligaments have been more heavily strained or in some cases torn. It’s important to seek advice after any sprained ankle as it can also increase your risk of re-injury by up to 70%.
